BIO IMAGE

I’ve been making films since I was 12. I’m 43 now, so suffice to say there were no cell phone cameras, GoPro cameras, or YouTube when I was 12. I literally begged my parents to buy me a Fisher Price PXL 2000 film camera for a Hanukah gift. I got the PXL 2000 and began my journey telling stories through the medium of filmmaking.

I did my undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism since, at the time, I wanted to be a international war reporter. How I went from doing a summer internship at MTV News to desiring to be in war zones is really not a complicated story. MTV News was a dream experience because I got to understand how a television network operated and learn pop culture reporting. But, making a difference in larger societal issues is what I dreamed to do. I spent several years working in NYC at CBS News and A&E Television until my whole world changed in 2001.

As I was hustling through Grand Central station on my way to work, I took my headphones out of my ears because something felt “off”. I heard chatter around me about an emergency in the city but couldn’t tell what was going on. As I rode the elevator up to the A&E Television offices around 9 a.m. people were chatting. I heard them say there was a grave emergency downtown. I practically ran out of the elevator, threw my bag down on my desk, then ran with my coworkers to watch the TV in the break room. The first plane had hit the World Trade Center. I sat there with dozens of coworkers in utter disbelief. We were in midtown Manhattan, just a few subway stops away, from the scene of 9/11.

I tried reaching my family and friends on my work landline. Almost no one answered since the phones were tied up. Like many others that day, I was literally crying my eyes out at my desk. I was a wreck. Around 11 a.m., we were told to leave the office and didn’t yet know where to go. I finally got through to my friend who had just got a job as a reporter at CNN. She said to come over to the CNN offices. When I got over to the CNN headquarters, my head was swirling.  Everywhere I looked I saw pure chaos. CNN’s entire staff were hustling because “all hands were on deck”. My friend was a financial reporter but she was assigned to cover the volunteer efforts in midtown. I looked out the glass windows next to her desk and saw the view of the towers burning downtown.

It was totally surreal, it was a bright sunny day with clouds in the sky yet huge clouds of smoke filled our view. Before we headed out to start gathering footage for my friend’s news piece, I stopped in the restroom. When I saw myself in the mirror I barely recognized myself. I looked like a ghost. In that moment, my life changed forever. I looked at the ghost like image of myself and made a promise. I promised that if I ever make it through this experience on 9/11 then I would be committed to helping people through my career in video. I promised I would not contribute to violence, negativity, and divisiveness that we so often see in the media. My video mission would be to promote peace.

Seventeen years later, it truly was that pivotal moment that lead me down a path of serving video clients with impactful videos that help businesses and nonprofits. Video can influence audiences through emotional connection, uplift our spirits, and shine light on issues we want others to care about. It is my pleasure to help transform lives and serve the greater good through storydriven videos.

I am so happy with the speaker reel Blue Lotus did for me. It was so easy to be able to leave notes for the editor to review online. They took my ideas and executed them and it turned out…
